The Dark Side of Logos: When Reason Becomes a Weapon
In our last post, we discussed the first of the three appeals, Logos. Of the three appeals, logos is the one we trust. Pathos works on our feelings, and we know, at least dimly, that feelings can be played. Ethos works on our sense of who’s credible, and we’ve all been burned by a confident fraud. But logos—reason, evidence, the argument itself—feels different. It feels safe. It feels like the one appeal that can’t really manipulate you, because it’s just laying out the facts and letting the logic do the work. You’re not being worked on; you’re being shown.
