Thank you Dan I appreciate your writings and taking the time to record the companion podcast. I don’t always take the time to read the articles but I’m trying to keep up.

Because I’m an atheist I assume Jesus has nothing to teach me but I’m willing to have a look.

I’m also suspicious of the word/action “sacrifice.” I was raised on Ayn Rand’s objectivism (virtue of selfishness). I think of myself as an individualist, putting myself and things I value first. Sacrifice seems to be the path to collectivism so I’m resistant.

We just watched 300 and my husband said the 300 Spartan’s made a sacrifice. I argued that it wasn’t a sacrifice because they were protecting their families and they valued their future more than their own life. Perhaps I’ll need to do these mental gymnastics in order not to admit I’m making a sacrifice.

Here goes. With my family I want to be more attentive and passionate with my wife, and more patient and enthusiastic with my kids. At work I'd like to be calmer under stress, and more steadfast when I'm tired. Getting the notebook now.
